How Can a Catholic
Vote for a Pro-choice Candidate?

Although for most of his political career Dennis Kucinich voted Pro-life, his conversations with many women have tempered that stance and now he is considered a "Pro-choice" candidate. No one forces anyone to have an abortion, but if someone is having one, he feels it is better to not risk death in the process.

Would making abortions illegal again make them go away? Did women have abortions when they were illegal? Of course they did! And even with President Bush who brags about being Pro-life, the abortion laws are still on the books, so why vote for President Bush again, a man whose love for war and capital punishment shows that he doesn't even respect lives that are already born?

When I was a young woman, abortions were illegal. I remember standing up to two weddings, two Catholic weddings, by the way, and both brides had had abortions of the babies that they conceived with their fiances. Even without Roe V. Wade these abortions there were abortions.

The world is different now. Walking down the wedding aisle pregnant is not such a scandal anymore, but some women have abortions for other reasons too-- not because of shame, but because they can't afford another child.

With Kucinich as president, the financial burdens of having a child would be lessened. To give women less reason to have abortions would help women have a real "choice" to choose life, but there are no guarantees that abortions will go away if they become illegal.

Dennis Kucinich is not pro-abortion, and his "pro-choice" stance is tempered with his desire to make abortions unnecessary in a world that is more fair to everyone- economically, socially and financially.

John F. Kennedy - first Catholic president

John F. KennedyPresident John F. Kennedy was the first Catholic president of the United States.

In his famous inaugural address, some of his words are left out in the quote, but here they are now:

"Ask not what your country can do for you. Ask what you can do for your country. Here on earth, God's work must truly be our own." - John F. Kennedy

Help elect Dennis Kucinich! Do God's work!
